The Day of the Mahatma!

I don’t feel extremely excited and delightful when I think of this day of October, the 2nd. In fact, this day passes on like any other not-so-important memorable days like Father’s day, Mother’s day, World Peace day and the like.

One quick question. Has Gandhi Jeyanthi made any sort of impact on any of us? I seriously doubt when you say it did. We did wish for the day to fall on a Friday or a Monday (but unfortunately it didn’t!) and we continue to wish for.

We try to remind ourselves of non-violence at least on this single day, but the movies telecast on television didn’t want to. After all, we are couch potatoes and, none can deny that we are impressed much by visual effects more than philosophical ideas.

Apart from this, one impressive movement that has taken effect from this day is the Ban of Smoking on public places. I’m not sure if even the Almighty knows this would seriously work but I wish it to. Giant software firms have ripped out their exclusive ‘Smoking zones’, both ‘decent’ and ‘indecent’ pubs have posted notices yelling out the ban, and the cops have started/are forced to be vigilant on unlawful selling of cigars and –rettes.

When this ban really works, it would give much more significance to this day. When it doesn’t, then Gandhi is never going to bother, nor the public/the Government will seem to.

Its interesting you mentioned abt the ban on smoking...although I'm not sure if Gandhi has anything to do with it.

I wrote about this a long time ago...and I still feel the same way abt smokers.

(dont' hate me) :D
